Standing on the corner of Bleecker Street and Perry Street. Perry Street being the address of one Miss Carrie Bradshaw! The well known brown stone apartment is actually in the West Village district of Manhattan, and boy does it have character! The coffee shops, boutiques and cosy restaurants on Bleecker Street are to die for – especially to a first time New York visitor like myself. So much character in this neighbourhood but have I mentioned how freezing it is in a New York Spring time? FREEZING!
Fashion is definately a top priority to me when putting together an outfit but how can you accomplish style with comfort and warmth at the same time? Because sometimes dressing like an eskimo is necessary!
My tip: Attention to the finer details. If you have to wear the thick black coat and the comfy, warm jeans then try to add your own style with different textures and neutral tones in your outfit. This jacket was a bargain find and I bought it here in New York because it was such a freezing day and I needed something thicker. But just because you need that thick, puffy coat doesn’t mean it has to be plain and boring. The first thing that caught my eye about this jacket was the faux fur trim on the hood – warm and chic! The gold hardware adds femininity and more attention to detail. I also love an anorak with a draw string waist to add a silhouette, to what can sometimes seem like a frumpy overcoat.

The ankle boots are simple, yet still a contrasting fabric with a chelsea gusset for easy styling. And now for my favourite part – the handbag! I am a handbag girl at heart (there’s no denying it!) because the possibilities are endless. I truly believe that the handbag is the outfit’s exclamation point, and in this case it stands to be true. A handbag can make or break an outfit. I decided to go with a contrasting taupe handbag, to my black outfit, to give the bag the attention it deserves! I found my new Marc by Marc Jacobs bag right here in New York and I loved the way the neutral tones in the faux fur complemented the taupe leather.
When push comes to shove and you don’t have a lot of flexibility with your outfit, may it be due to weather, living out of a suitcase etc focus your attention into the smaller details of your outfit for a stronger look overall.
