Eight Summer Life Savers with X NIHILO

Well Christmas has been and gone (yes, already!) but the silly season isn’t over yet. Summer in Australia is always a crazy time of year. From Christmas, New Years and Australia Day to weekend wine tours, endless weddings, birthdays and lets not forget festivals too! Summer is an insanely busy time of year which means looking after yourself is even more important now than ever. I’ve teamed up with X NIHILO and their gorgeous EIGHT MINI bag to share with you my EIGHT Summer Life Savers you can count on to get you through the silly season.

Before I get stuck into the list of life savers, you should know that having a go-to Summer bag is always at the top of my list when the weather warms up. As soon as things get heated we all love transitioning into a Summer wardrobe and as much as I am a bag gal, I do find having an everyday bag that does it all is always a priority.

The Eight Mini by X NIHILO is that bag. The bag. The bag that does it all. Sure the rich tan leather was the draw card for me (can you honestly blame me?) but this bag is an ‘it’ piece in every way. It’s versatile shape, mistakenly large interior and endless carry options are just some of the reasons the Eight Mini is a sought after bag. Being a 20 something woman I feel you when you say you want a quality, on trend, designer bag without a Saint Laurent price tag – am I right? X NIHILO pride themselves on representing their brand that constructs quality bags with innovative and diverse designs at a price point that won’t force you to eat two minute noodles for the first three months of the year! And did I mention – they’re an Australian label?! In a time where fast fashion is getting faster and faster by the minute, it’s more important now than ever to support our own businesses that create sustainable fashion. The brand is based in Melbourne and the founder, Jen, focuses her designs around unique shapes and aesthetics rather than trends, so each piece remains timeless. Through each design, Jen communicates a personal touch by naming her pieces after streets she’s lived on. It’s Jen’s vision for the brand that really makes you feel that by owning an X NIHILO design, you really are a part of something bigger. See the entire collection at xnihilo.com.au

Now onto the Summer Life Savers – in keeping with supporting local, all of these are Aussie made or designed too!

My Eight Summer Life Savers:

1. Lucas Paw Paw Ointment – okay it might be an obvious one but you can’t tell me it’s not the most common item found in a girls handbag. Dry lips? Paw Paw, Sunburn? Paw Paw, Insect Bite? Paw Paw – need I go on?

2. Bath Box Charred Face Mask – Is there anything better than a charchoal face mask? No. Is there any problem that can’t be solved with a facemask? No. You know I’m right.

3. Nivea After Sun Moisture cream – okay this one really is a life saver! When you’ve got major after-sun regret, you’re gonna want to have this bad boy in the cupboard. So much moisture in this one and so soothing with the Aloe Vera content – you’re gonna want to buy this stat.

4. Bondi Sands Tanning Foam – Okay the colour is a personal choice but if you’re a pale pancake like me, you’ll need to go ultra dark. This one is essential for Summer!

5. Thankyou. Hand Wash – I love having this around the house. I’m prone to dry skin and soaps can be iffy for me but this one works. Not only does the minimal design match my matt black taps and bathroom aesthetic but all of the proceeds go to fighting global poverty. Definitely a cause worth supporting.

6. EVO Icon Welder – weird name, great product. Hair gets so dry so quickly in Summer so don’t sizzle it off by avoiding heat protect!

7. Damselfly Candles – Okay this isn’t really a Summer thing, it’s an all year round thing. These candles are seriously amazing and the perfect home decor piece that look gorgeous around the house and smell incredible!

8. Jolie & Deen Jewellery – LOVE LOVE LOVE this brand! Minimal, on trend yet timeless, delicate, quality pieces that you can wear day after day. I love layering my necklaces for more detail and wearing the gorgeous pearl drop earrings for a point of difference. Day to night wear – this label is your life saver in the jewellery world. It’s so easy to find on trend pieces but to find QUALITY on trend pieces – now that’s what I’m talking about!

Happy New Year everyone – looking forward to creating more new content throughout 2019!

Dressing for Winter, Dreaming of Summer ~ with MVN the Label

When Winter in Australia looks like this, we really can’t complain too much can we?!

Sure, there are days of bucketing rain and thunder storms but when we’re lucky, Winter days in Australia sometimes look like this. Don’t let the sunshine fool you, these boots are for keeping the pins toasty, as much as they are for the fashion cred!

No matter what season it is though, stripes are something I’ll always go back to. They’re the it print in every season, made for layering and longevity – we know they’ll never go out of style. This little number by MVN the Label is surprisingly super versatile! I actually can’t wait to wear this piece in Spring because it’s so light and beachy, but paired back with boots and a boyfriend blazer this piece is elevated to a whole new level of versatility. In fact with anything in my wardrobe I try not to label it as a “Summer” or “Winter” piece. Try working your Summer dresses into your Autumn looks with ankle boots, stockings and leather jackets for a wardrobe curve ball!

Falling Into Autumn

Summer is over. Summer is over?! ALREADY??

It never gets easier coming to the realization that the best season has, yet again, come to an end (*cries inside*). There is one thing that always gets me through when Summer fades away.. Autumn fashion.

I’m a summer girl at heart but Autumn/Winter fashion is definitely my favourite! It’s a season you can really have fun with when it comes to styling. Layers, textures, fabrics – the opportunities are endless!

One of my go-to looks for the in-between weather is teaming a mini skirt with a long sleeve top. As well as creating different lengths to your outfit, it’s a great way to style a new Autumn piece like a statement blouse while still showing off the pins! You can finish off the look with the ultimate tran-seasonal shoe – the mule, or add an ankle boot to really get that Winter vibe going.

Experiment with textures – it’s the best part about Fall fashion! Knits, wools, silks and leathers, the list goes on. Try to team contrasting fabrics together to really elevate your look and create something new.

Happy new season shopping ladies 😉

If it’s got a statement sleeve, give it to me!

It’s the trend that’s having a moment right now and it’s everywhere. I’m trying hard to control my statement sleeve addiction but I’m losing!

This shirt by C/MEO COLLECTIVE is a minimalist’s dream. Statement sleeves, polka dot print, deep-V and a key hole draw string back closure – because everything about this top has attention to detail.

A leather mini is always my go-to bottom, even in Summer when you can switch it up for a grey or white leather. Working with a lighter palette in a heavier fabric has the ability to be styled multiple ways throughout every season.

Shooting with Australian Style Institute

batch_IMG_0737batch_IMG_0796batch_IMG_0879batch_IMG_0952batch_IMG_0895batch_IMG_1042Shooting with Australian Style Institute and their incredible team of models, hair and make up artists, fashion labels and oh so talented photographer, Jason Lau, was such a great experience.

Working with other aspiring stylists and entrepreneurs of the fashion industry made it a shoot like no other. The creative eye of Jason Lau helped us see things we didn’t picture before and allowed us to push all creative boundaries.

We took to the quirky streets of Fitzroy in Melbourne to shoot gorgeous pieces by incredible labels, Megan Park, Once Was and Gorman and had the pleasure of shooting with Brazen models.

Take a look at the some behind the scenes snaps from ASI and be on the lookout for the final shots still to come!

PJ’s All Day

I was a tad reluctant to try this trend at first but I love how different it is… oh and comfy!

With any trend I always suggest trialing a cheaper version before investing in the real deal in case it’s something that isn’t around for long or if it’s simply just not you.

I teamed the PJ blouse (or so I call it) with my go to leather mini for a chic yet laid back look. I was actually touring this day so I wanted to look put together but still cool in the Tokyo heat!

When you’re putting a new trend to the test, put your spin on it and style it with your go-to pieces for your ultimate look. I love leather skirts right now and neck ties (or skinny scarfs, or anything neck tie related!) so make it yours with your own style!

Tokyo On-The-Go

IMG_6140IMG_6141IMG_6143IMG_6152Here’s some styling tips you don’t have to travel far to find out!

  1. Style doesn’t have to be compromised for travel – Just because you’re living out of a suitcase doesn’t mean you’ve lost all sense of your personal style. It’s easy to go into panic mode when it comes to packing… and traveling… and figuring out what to wear! Opt for pieces that will provide you comfort for long periods of time while on the go.( That doesn’t mean putting on the trackies and runners!!) Look for key items that look put together but don’t necessarily compromise style for comfort. (Enter the culottes!!)
  2. Neutrals are your best friend! – They’re simply just the easiest items to mix and match when living off of a few items on the go. Options will be endless and it will make getting ready quicker to avoid cutting into that precious site-seeing time!
  3. Play with different shapes and cuts – Neutrals are basic but the shapes don’t have to be. Bring a point of difference to your outfit by  teaming items that attract the eye. It might be a frill, flare sleeve, low back etc but it will make that basic piece, not so basic!

Even if you aren’t planning a trip anytime soon, these tips are helpful to incorporate into your everyday wardrobe!

Thanks for reading and please subscribe so you don’t miss the next post! 🙂
