Shooting with Australian Style Institute and their incredible team of models, hair and make up artists, fashion labels and oh so talented photographer, Jason Lau, was such a great experience.
Working with other aspiring stylists and entrepreneurs of the fashion industry made it a shoot like no other. The creative eye of Jason Lau helped us see things we didn’t picture before and allowed us to push all creative boundaries.
We took to the quirky streets of Fitzroy in Melbourne to shoot gorgeous pieces by incredible labels, Megan Park, Once Was and Gorman and had the pleasure of shooting with Brazen models.
Take a look at the some behind the scenes snaps from ASI and be on the lookout for the final shots still to come!

I was a tad reluctant to try this trend at first but I love how different it is… oh and comfy!
With any trend I always suggest trialing a cheaper version before investing in the real deal in case it’s something that isn’t around for long or if it’s simply just not you.
I teamed the PJ blouse (or so I call it) with my go to leather mini for a chic yet laid back look. I was actually touring this day so I wanted to look put together but still cool in the Tokyo heat!
When you’re putting a new trend to the test, put your spin on it and style it with your go-to pieces for your ultimate look. I love leather skirts right now and neck ties (or skinny scarfs, or anything neck tie related!) so make it yours with your own style!

Here’s some styling tips you don’t have to travel far to find out!
- Style doesn’t have to be compromised for travel – Just because you’re living out of a suitcase doesn’t mean you’ve lost all sense of your personal style. It’s easy to go into panic mode when it comes to packing… and traveling… and figuring out what to wear! Opt for pieces that will provide you comfort for long periods of time while on the go.( That doesn’t mean putting on the trackies and runners!!) Look for key items that look put together but don’t necessarily compromise style for comfort. (Enter the culottes!!)
- Neutrals are your best friend! – They’re simply just the easiest items to mix and match when living off of a few items on the go. Options will be endless and it will make getting ready quicker to avoid cutting into that precious site-seeing time!
- Play with different shapes and cuts – Neutrals are basic but the shapes don’t have to be. Bring a point of difference to your outfit by teaming items that attract the eye. It might be a frill, flare sleeve, low back etc but it will make that basic piece, not so basic!
Even if you aren’t planning a trip anytime soon, these tips are helpful to incorporate into your everyday wardrobe!

Some say basic is boring but in this day and age it isn’t the case. Basic is the new bold and neutral is the new bright! Toning down can actually make a bigger statement and say more than a busy outfit ever could.
Neutral tones might seem blazae but the real excitement is hidden in the textures and the cuts! Tone down the palette but tone up the creativity in your outfit by focusing on raw edges, clean lines and bold shapes. Don’t be afraid to mix structure with flow! Match a structured flared sleeve top with a flowy, suede skirt. Experiment with clean lines that sit off the shoulder and contrast it with something soft. Play with boots that sit at different heights – be daring and try the new ‘it’ boot of the season that sits over the ankle and under the calf.
Your outfit will only be boring if you make it boring – always strive for a point of difference!

Happy 1st Birthday Way of Wear!
Wow! A whole year has passed since I started my fashion blog and it’s been a crazy and exciting ride since.
I’ve definitely learned that starting your own blog (or starting your own anything!) isn’t easy! It’s super challenging, sometimes very tiring and boy do you have to have a whole lot of motivation to keep it going. But it has been so much fun writing about fashion and styling and capturing it. I’ve met some incredible people along the way and I look forward to what 2016 brings for Way of Wear!
Oh and most importantly… THANK YOU!
If you’re reading this then I’m talking to you. Thank you all for reading, following, giving feedback and supporting me as I pursue my passion for fashion blogging! Every follow, every positive comment, every like is what feeds my motivation to keep me going. These things might seem small or irrelevant to you but they seriously play a major part in the growth of Way of Wear and, once again, thank you all for that!
I am excited for you to see what’s in store for Way of Wear in 2016!

Introducing Trend #2… the sleeveless coat!
I know what you’re thinking, isn’t that a Winter piece? Well you make a good point… which is why I love this style! It was everywhere in Winter but its made its way through to Spring and Summer!
Team it with a lighter palette to suit the season. Grey is my everything – and white is its best friend! The sleeveless coat is also the perfect piece for those cooler Summer nights where you want to look like Summer but feel comfy and cozy. I’m a big believer in getting value for money out of your wardrobe favourites, so if you go for a quality fabric that can be dressed cooler or warmer then you will reap the benefits of tran-seasonal pieces while styling the latest trends!
A sleeveless coat also makes a statement! It makes a casual outfit a dressy one, it elongates the body so you look taller and its usually a piece that grabs the attention of others because it’s out of the ordinary.
I definately recommend trying this trend for Summer – and why not experiment it with different pieces in Autumn too for a cooler look!

Well as I sit on my bed on this warm summer night about to start the work week again (yes, my work week is Tues-Sat) I wonder what the hell am I going to wear?! My friends and family would tell you I have too much to choose from but, let’s be honest, there is never too much… right?
If you’re getting sick of your wardrobe roster then mix it up with these Summer trends that will make getting ready so much easier!
I bring you the three part series of ‘3 Trends To Try This Summer’!
Kicking it off with Trend #1 is the jumpsuit. Could it be any easier to put an outfit together when you literally take out the “put it together” part? You don’t have to worry “do the colours match?”, “does it go?” etc, just throw it on and you’re done! Style them with flats and a straw hat for beachy vibes or compliment your jumpsuit with lace up heels and a light blazer for the perfect Summer night outfit! (Did I mention how comfy and cool they are for the Summer?!) Enough said.
Keep an eye out here at wayofwear.com for the rest of the series soon to come!
