Less Is More

flare post 3flare sleeve postflare post 1flare post 2Minimalist style has never been more on trend than what it is now. We can incorporate it into every aspect of our personal style. Minimal pieces, minimal colour, minimal accessories, minimal embellishments – the list goes on! And although its a style that’s on trend now, it hasn’t always been the way. It was Coco Chanel who once said “before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off” – how times have changed! We dress so minimally now that we have to actually remember to put more on!

I love the minimal style. It’s easy, it’s crisp, and always looks smart. But just because its easy doesn’t mean we shouldn’t still pay attention to detail. If the “less is more” look is what you’re aiming for, then make sure the finer details in your outfit speak loudly!

The trick is to accomplish minimal style while still nailing the trends. It might be the bell sleeve cut, the buttons that run down the skirt, the V shape gusset in the boots or the elongating suede choker. You might not have paid much attention to it all together but each piece tells a different story. Have you ever admired a garment on someone else and thought “I have to have that!” but then thought “why”? It’s just a basic garment, right? Nothing too flash about it? Maybe it’s the fit, or the cut, or the way the fabric sits – it’s the finer details in a quality piece that make it an investment.

The key to a minimalists wardrobe is investing in quality pieces that will last and that can be mix and matched to achieve different looks. The best part? Anyone can accomplish a minimal wardrobe. No matter what size or body shape you have – the rules are all the same. Invest in great basics to nail that crisp, sharp, elegant style. Less really is more.

Sweet Neon In The Sweet Sunshine

Looking for that perfect Summer outfit? You know the kind you can wear to wineries, bridal showers, family BBQ’s and all of the other save-the-dates we have on our calendar at this busy time of the year?! And of course, it’s warm so you want your outfit to have a pop of colour too. (We don’t ask for much, do we??)

Online fashion boutique and go-to outfit source, Sweet Neon, has you covered – whatever the occasion! You’ll find a range of gorgeous dresses among skirts, tops, jumpsuits, shorts and the list goes on! (Jackets and knits in the Winter too!)

If you’re like me you’ll make your outfits mostly out of separates. Don’t get me wrong I love a good jumpsuit or dress, but separates are so wearable and so easy to mix and match to suit your style, your occasion and to get the most bang for your buck!

This wrap skirt will be a statement however you wear it. But if you want to tone it down a bit, team it down with a basic grey tee and a metallic slide for ultimate, effortless chic. Wrap skirts are so on trend right now. They give edge to any outfit and make Summer layering easy! Team the striped crop with crisp culottes to take your look from day to night (or to the office!).

If you’re on the hunt for a special outfit and don’t want to break the bank, or simply just need some good old retail therapy – visit sweetneon.com.au

Happy 1st Birthday Way of Wear!

Wow! A whole year has passed since I started my fashion blog and it’s been a crazy and exciting ride since.

I’ve definitely learned that starting your own blog (or starting your own anything!) isn’t easy! It’s super challenging, sometimes very tiring and boy do you have to have a whole lot of motivation to keep it going. But it has been so much fun writing about fashion and styling and capturing it. I’ve met some incredible people along the way and I look forward to what 2016 brings for Way of Wear!

Oh and most importantly… THANK YOU!

If you’re reading this then I’m talking to you. Thank you all for reading, following, giving feedback and supporting me as I pursue my passion for fashion blogging! Every follow, every positive comment, every like is what feeds my motivation to keep me going. These things might seem small or irrelevant to you but they seriously play a major part in the growth of Way of Wear and, once again, thank you all for that!

I am excited for you to see what’s in store for Way of Wear in 2016!

Well I’m very excited to announce that this week I had the privilege to collaborate with Urban Girl Clothing to bring you these two looks!

I love discovering new places to shop. It can be hard though when you don’t know exactly what you’re looking for, but you know you want to be rocking the latest pieces and styles that are on trend. Urban Girl is a cozy boutique in Cowndilla packed out with a huge range of diverse pieces and new styles constantly. They have heaps to choose from but you have to be quick as their stock is in high demand. Whatever you see on the racks this week, will be gone the next – so you won’t be caught wearing the same outfit as everyone else! It also makes the pieces you choose that little bit more special!

One thing’s for sure – they know what’s on trend! Silky, spaghetti strap cami’s have definitely made their comeback this season. This Talulah top is the ultimate wardrobe staple that will take you from the office to the cocktail party. Team it simply with cigarette style pants and your go-to heels or take the next step and team it with a bold coloured mini skirt to turn heads! Friday night outfit = DONE!

If you asked me what my favourite colour to wear last season was I would have said grey. Ask me this season… KHAKI! (And yes it is a Summer colour now!) Gone are the days it was only suitable for camo costumes – it’s made a comeback and what a comeback it is! This tone is so versatile that you can wear it with almost anything – even tassles! The apron style skirt has to be a standout for me this season. It’s such a fresh design and will easily be a trend that will see you through from Summer to Winter. The apron skirt is a must have this season and you MUST get your hands on one!

Whether you’re looking for a weekend outfit, updating your wardrobe or are just simply in need of some good old retail therapy (with helpful customer service and styling tips!), Urban Girl Clothing has you covered.

Is there anything better in the warm weather than a shirt dress?? It’s easy, comfy, cool and effortlessly stylish. And I mean effortless – throw it on, add sandals, say no more! There’s nothing worse than trying to style an outfit when it’s hot and you want comfort… but you also want style!

This dress by Imonni has a long, curved hem, side splits for movement and a tie-up belt to cinch in the waist. This dress is simply perfect for every figure. The cuffed sleeves slim the arms and shoulders and the buttons down the front elongate the figure – great for shorties like me!

I’m a big fan of neutrals so the black and white geometric combination was perfect for my wardrobe! Take a different angle on the shirt dress and wear it as a vest. Leave it un-buttoned but still tied up, teamed with jeans, a singlet, heels and a hat and you have a totally different look! (Or even layer it with a long sleeve underneath for the cooler months.)

Tip: Look out for curved hems on dresses to elongate your figure. Avoid even hems if you’re short as it can often cut you off and make you look shorter.

Adelaide Fashion Festival 15

IMG_2286 IMG_2373 IMG_2366Wow! What another huge year it has been for the Adelaide Fashion Festival!
From the hottest designers, newest collections, bloggers and special appearances (and so, so much more!) – Adelaide Fashion Week was jam packed and packed full of punch!

In the heart of Adelaide in Hindmarsh Square was where the fashion festival called home for 2015.
It was most definitely the ultimate setting to show off Adelaide’s most talented fashion designers and all that we have to look forward to seeing from them soon.

Although there were so many incredible shows and designers throughout fashion week, I’ll go through just some of the stand outs for me and my favourite looks.

Sally Phillips and Liza Emanuele both showcased amazing collections and above all unique and diverse styles.

The Sally Phillips collection was all about the tribal vibe this year! Aztec prints, extravagant neck pieces, innovative textures and bold colour blocking, made up a fantastic collection with ultimate day to day wear-ability.
The range was made up of unique pieces designed to be worn separately to create different looks or worn as showcased for executed style.

See my top picks from the Sally Phillips collection below.

Liza Emanuele brought a whole new level of elegance and sophistication that not only translated into her gorgeous gowns but in the feminine fabrics and shapes from her entire collection.
Bold stripes and bright florals combined with soft neutrals, made a statement in Liza’s collection but the designs were achieved with the utmost poise and femininity.

And last but not least… The Fashion BNKR show by Australian Fashion Labels!

Keepsake, Finders Keepers, C/MEO and The Fifth are all a part of the Australian Fashion Labels family and boy do they always leave us wanting more!

Forever delivering outstanding and innovative styles crafted with the highest quality fabrics the BNKR show never fails to disappoint.

Although it’s impossible to name a favourite, I would have to say that Finders Keepers was a definite stand out for me at this years show. Their fresh take on the neutral palette, teamed with bold animal inspired print is a new and edgy look for the brand this season. A transformation of a simple design to something spectacular, is what makes Finders Keepers the brand it is identified as today.

See my Finders Keepers favourites below.

Keepsake also created a fresh print for summer which starred a combination of the common winter hue, burgundy, and a bold, light coloured, floral print. Burgundy, usually being the favourite tone from Winter, was styled gorgeously in their Summer collection (a re-vamp the colour was desperate for, if you ask me!) and perfect for any transeasonal outfit too!

Overall, the Adelaide Fashion Festival 15 was a huge success and it was great to be able to support local talent as well as get us all very excited for this upcoming season!

The Finer Things

IMG_1902 IMG_1901 IMG_1900 IMG_1899

Most of the time dressing casual is the norm. That doesn’t mean it has to be plain and boring though! (Even if you’re someone like me, who likes their neutrals!)

Jeans = tick! Knit = tick! Flats = tick! So you’ve got all of your go-to casual basics but you want to steer away from making your outfit another plain old jeans and top combo? Take care in the finer details of your outfit!

One of the best ways to get a different look and feel fresh is just simply by changing the way you wear those key pieces. Start with jeans – the most basic of basic wardrobe items, right? Well if you’re tired of the way they look on you then maybe its time for a new pair or a different cut. My tip to wake up your jeans is by simply cuffing them at the hem. Not so neat that ‘you did it on purpose’ but messy enough that you achieve the ‘I didn’t even try’ look!

I’m a self confessed knit wear addict! I adore Winter only for its cozy jumpers. I search all season and buy way too many, looking for that perfect one that washes well, keeps its shape and feels oh-so-soft! If you want to steer away from those heavy knits you already have that just consume you when you wear them, then try a knit with a different cut. Simple side splits, different arm lengths, ribbed fabric, high neck or off the shoulder – the list goes on. Go for a knit that works for you, that’s probably pricier but worth the cost and one that is neutral so you’ll get the wear out of it! Light knits with shorter sleeves are the ultimate transitional piece that will take care of you on those breezy Spring days.

Flats are every girls comfort shoe. It’s the safe choice – isn’t it? Just because it’s a flat, doesn’t mean it has to be boring. One of my ultimate pet hates is seeing a gorgeous outfit worn with plain, black, tatty flats with feet rolling out of them! Don’t worry, I love a comfy shoe just as much as the next girl. Look for a more structured flat that has simple detailing. Ankle lace-ups are a huge must for this Spring season. If you haven’t got your hands on a pair, now is the time to do so – you heard it here first! If you’re not into the lace-up trend, try a flat with discreet cut outs, a loafer style or lash out and try a brogue!

Just because your outfit is comfy and simple doesn’t mean it can’t exude style and fashion. Sometimes the finer details of an outfit make the loudest statement.

Tip: Add a thin, soft scarf for extra layers in your outfit, a little more colour and a heap of warmth!
